Backstory terms of use
Last updated 23 July 2026.
The agreement
By installing or using Backstory, you agree to these terms. They are between you and Gaurav Choukse. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
What you can do
You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use Backstory on devices you own or control, for your own use. You may not resell it, rent it, or try to extract its source code.
Your content is yours
Everything you put into Backstory belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it and we do not use it to train anything or to build a profile of you.
Back up your data
Phones get lost, dropped and wiped. You are responsible for keeping your own backups. We are not able to recover data that only existed on a device you no longer have.
The app is provided as-is
Backstory is offered without warranty of any kind. It is a small app built by one person, and while it is made carefully, it may contain bugs and may occasionally be unavailable. To the fullest extent the law allows, Gaurav Choukse is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
Purchases
Any purchase or subscription is processed by Apple or Google, under their terms. Refunds are handled by whichever store you bought through — we cannot issue them directly.
Ending it
You can stop using Backstory at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend access if the app is used unlawfully or in a way that harms other users.
Changes
These terms may be updated. Material changes will be reflected in the date above.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, United States.
